When we were young, history books explained to us how and why we were independent, as well as how Mahatma Gandhi came to be known as the Father of the Nation and whose efforts allowed us to be released from British enslavement. But do movies released nowadays depict the whole truth? Do we know enough names of the liberation fighters? Most likely not, given how little is known about Veer Savarkar from the recent movie Randeep Hooda. Although Randeep Hooda played the lead in the movie, it wasn’t as entertaining as movies like Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, or Gandhi.
Story
The movie, which is based on Veer Savarkar’s life, chronicles his early years and final days. Savarkar’s vision of a united India is depicted in the tale. He was adamant that nonviolence could not be used to win independence from the British. The story starts with a horrific disease known as the plague in the late 1800s. Veer Savarkar was born into British slavery.
Seeing his father die, young Savarkar called on himself to become a revolutionary. His first destination on the tour is Fergusson College, where he meets Lokmanya Tilak, the head of the Garam Dal, and establishes Abhinav Bharat, a revolutionary organization that will kindle the flames of revolution. Ankita Lokhande was Veer Savarkar’s wife by that point.
Acting of Starcast
Throughout the whole movie, only Randeep Hooda will be visible. Given Randeep’s appearance, it appears that no one could have played Savarkar more well than him. One could have thought they were viewing Savarkar on TV. The Kaala Paani segment has Randeep Hooda in a fantastic performance. His dedication to this character is evident on film.
Amit Sial portrays the role of Savarkar’s brother, while Ankita Lokhande plays his spouse. Furthermore, there was room for improvement in the casting; for instance, Gandhiji may have been played by a more deserving actor. Additionally unappreciated is the actor portraying Dr. Ambedkar.
Direction
This is the first film that Randeep Hooda has directed. Randeep Hooda was scheduled to helm this movie instead of Mahesh Manjrekar at first because of disagreements between the two. The film’s photography and numerous frames are superb, but the director’s decision to leave out a lengthy scene in the edit betrays a lack of vision.
Although playing the parts of both an actor and a director in a movie is not an easy feat, Randeep Hooda’s acting does not appear to be under any pressure. His character in the movie received so much attention that other actors’ performances and character development are hardly noticeable behind him. In the movie, Randeep has a lot of monologues in which he talks while staring straight into the camera, but eventually, it gets really repetitive.
Verdict
The history of India’s various liberation fighters is mostly unknown. Although there was a lot of talk about Veer Savarkar, not much was known about him in the press. This movie provides you with all the details on him. His fight for the nation’s independence ought to be known to everybody.
