In today’s blog post we are going to Scam 2003 Web Series Review so let’s start
The hardest part of making a second instalment in a franchise is dealing with expectations, and even more so if the first part was very successful, as was the case with Hansal Mehta and Jai Mehta’s Prateik Gandhi-directed Scam 1992, almost three years now. After, Abdul Karim Telgi – the man behind India’s biggest stamp paper scam, is back with a new story this time.
This time it is Applause Entertainment, Studio Next and SonyLIV-backed scam franchise. Additionally, filmmaker Tushar Hiranandani has directed Scam 2003 – The Telgi Story. Therefore, it is natural to compare these two stories. Does it live up to the standard of the first part? You will get the answer to this by reading further.
Scam 2003 Web Series Review – Story
In the year 2020, Harshad Mehta’s story was shown in Hansal Mehta and Tushar Hiranandani’s film ‘Scam 1992’. Because of him, even the Stock Exchange, SEBI and the Prime Minister’s Office had lost sleep. Now after three years, the pair’s film ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story’ is coming. This time the story is of scammer Abdul Karim Telgi.
This story is true and has been written by journalist Sanjay Singh. This is taken from the book ‘Telagi Scam: Reporter’s Diary’. The story of the series revolves around Telgi’s Rs 30,000 crore stamp paper scam. This journey takes Abdul Karim Telgi to great heights and leads to his arrest.

Scam 2003 Web Series Review – Star Performance
Gagan Dev Riyar has played the character of Telgi very well. He gives the impression of having practised all his life for this part. His character is very easy going and one blends in well. In the fourth episode, you get the idea that the character is playing a real-life person. Gagan Dev Riar has achieved great success in portraying the characteristics of Abdul Karim Telgi.
Talat Aziz in an extended cami is very balanced and perfect, and Sana in Shaikh is also balanced. But with the rest, and especially those directly related to Telugu, it seems as if they are trying to play the characters of the 1992 scam. Almost like they’re fanboying.
But, Bharat Jadhav and Shashank Ketkar have now emerged and it will be interesting to see how their characters play out.
Direction & Music
Tushar Hiranandani (Saand Ki Aankh) is a director who has high expectations of his central character worshipping him. They have worked very hard to highlight this character in their final product. It is a very important and difficult task to highlight such a character which makes the rest of the people look like fools. Tushar Hiranandani uses Rayer a lot to explain the process in a voiceover that sounds like a teacher. Even top-level government officials are his students.
Yes, where the ego of an honest officer is bruised, his order is unclear, but it works because someone stands against him and there is a rival. But that too gets resolved quickly. Fights get resolved very quickly and hence the impact is reduced.
The music of Scam 1992 was unique; Scam 2003 is stuck on the same and cannot move forward.

Overall, Scam 2003: The Telegi Story Part 1 is a watchable series with excellent performances from the cast. This is praiseworthy as the manufacturers have exposed such a big scam related to stamp paper. Although the subject matter is interesting, the screenplay and pacing could have been better. We will have to see what the second half has in store for us.
